DIET: Herbivore

STATUS IN THE WILD: Least Concern

PHYSICAL FEATURES AND CHARACTERISTICS

Runner ducks’ characteristic feature is their upright posture. Their posture is due to their pelvic bone being positioned more toward the tail area of the bird. They don’t waddle, instead, they run when they are in a hurry. They can weigh up to five pounds. Males have small curled feathers on the end of their tails, while females have flat feathers.

LIFESTYLE AND REPRODUCTION

The females can lay 150 to 200 eggs during the course of a year. The females are notorious for dropping their eggs wherever they may be at the time. This can be quite difficult for breeders who are raising these ducks.

RANGE AND HABITAT

They are native to the Indonesian islands of Lombok, Java and Bali.

DIET

Their diet consists of plant materials found in and around bodies of water.
